Decision Day

When I first downloaded both PrimerePro (PP) and InDesign I can’t lie I was extremely overwhelmed with the though of trying to gain mastery of these programs which looked extremely complicated to me. I had never worked on software that was this complex ever before, so I was in shock to say the least. However, as I began playing with both, I realized its just going to take time a patience and I will eventually get it (even though that may take longer than I would like it to). I feel that I would like to do a movie clip with PrimerePro because I would be able to tell a much clearer story in those two minutes than I think I would If I were to do the magazine. 

In the article “ Our Place in the Universe: The Importance of Story and Storytelling in the Classroom, they say “when the brain processes sensory words, not only do the vocabulary areas of the brain activate, but the sensory areas of the cortex do as well”, along with “The brain actually experiences the story in the same way it would as if you were inside the narrative itself.” With this in mind, I feel like making a movie in general will give me the best opportunity to share my story in a way that will leave my audience feeling as if they had just gone thru the narrative themselves. 

One of the handy things that PrimerePro lets you do is they have so many effects too allow you to edit your movie and share the aesthetic/ theme you want your movie to convey. For example they have a feature that allows you to edit the lighting of your footage to match the mis-en-scene of your film. As far as storytelling goes, in my opinion, a film is the most remarkable way to tell a story and bring it to life. When I first tried InDesign, I realized that I was just having more fun trying to work PP than this program. That is when I realized I was going to do a movie. 

When reading the article “Survival of the fittest: four editors on the future of literary magazines” when they brought up the point that “Readership is painfully low, budgets are notoriously tight, and many journals are struggling to stay viable, let alone relevant” it reminded me that I do in fact have more experience with watching movies than reading magazines. If anything, that would be one more reason for me to do the movie option seeing as I just have more experience with that delivery of story than that found in a magazine. Looking back now that I have made my decision, I feel excited to be able to work more with the program PrimerePro to not only master it, but figure out different ways I can use all of the features to help me being the story I want to portray to life.
